Sometimes, you might encounter problems when installing apps in Setapp. The installation may fail, and an accessibility error message appears:
<appName> could not be installed due to a possible user permissions error.
Please make sure you resolve any related issues and try again.
Or it may look like this:
Why this happens
Setapp installs apps in the /Applications/Setapp folder. If your user account doesn’t have Read & Write permissions for this folder, Setapp won’t be able to install or update apps properly.
How to fix it
- Open Finder > Applications.
- Right-click the Setapp folder (not the app file) and choose Get Info.
-
In the Sharing & Permissions section, set your account to Read & Write.
Tips:
- If the Sharing & Permissions section isn’t visible, click the disclosure triangle to expand it.
- If your account isn’t listed in the Name column, click the + button, choose your account, then click Select.
For step-by-step instructions, go to Apple’s guide on Change permissions for files, folders, or disks on Mac.
