If you moved your user home folders to an external disk or another Mac (such as an M4 Mac Mini), Setapp may no longer open. This happens because macOS blocks Setapp due to changed permissions. To fix this, you need to restore Setapp’s permissions.
Example of home folders
Prerequisite: Make sure you are signed in to your Mac with an administrator account.
To restore permissions, follow these steps:
- Open Finder and choose the volume that now contains your home folders.
- Choose File > Get Info, or right-click it > Get Info.
- Scroll down and expand Sharing & Permissions.
- Click the lock
and enter your administrator password. It's required to make permission changes.
- Clear the "Ignore ownership on this volume" checkbox.
- Restart your Mac.
Now you can open Setapp and enjoy all its features.
