Activate a gift card

I use Setapp, and I got a gift card...

Purchase a gift card

You can purchase a Setapp gift card in Setapp's Gift Card Store. Just choose a denomination:

• $9.99
• $29.97
• $107.88

Then fill in the contact info, and click "Proceed to payment" to complete your purchase.

We can send your gift on any day. To let us know, choose "Schedule for later" while providing the contact info, then choose a date. We'll send your gift at 00:00 (UTC) on the selected day.

That's it! Within an hour of processing your payment, your friend will receive an email with a gift card code. We'll also send you a confirmation email with a receipt around 15 minutes after your purchase. 

Activate a gift card

A gift card can be a literal card, a line of numbers on your purchase receipt, or an email. If your gift card arrived as an email, open the email titled "Your Setapp gift card is inside." Check the spam folder if you can't find it in your Inbox. To activate your gift card, click Activate Membership in the email.

You are a new Setapp user 

If you hadn't used Setapp before you got a gift card, follow these steps to activate your gift card:

1. Open the Redeem Gift Card page.

2. Enter your code in the opened window, and click Continue.

3. Now you need to create a Setapp account:

• Use your Apple account (previously Apple ID) or Google account to sign up, or

• Enter your email and receive a one-time PIN code. Enter the PIN code and click Sign In. 

  The gift card code will be activated automatically. 

Congratulations! You now have a Setapp account with an active "Mac" subscription. Download the Setapp desktop app and try our apps. Your account details, subscription plan, and all the necessary information are always available in your Setapp account.

You're an existing Setapp user

If you already use Setapp, the gift card denomination will be added to your plan. Explore I use Setapp, and I got a gift card... to find out how we'll recalculate your plan.

To activate the card, follow these steps:

1. Open your Setapp account.

2. Switch to the Gift cards page. 

   

3. Enter your gift card code and click Activate code.

Done! You activated your gift card. You can always check your account status on the Subscription page of your Setapp account.

You use Setapp on trial

Usually, the trial period lasts 7 days. If you received a Setapp gift card during the trial period, you don't have to wait for the free days to expire. You can activate the card immediately, and we'll add the remaining days of your trial to the gift period. In other words, all your free days stay with you. Remember that you can always change your subscription plan if the trial plan doesn't meet your needs.

You have an active subscription plan 

Setapp recalculates the gift card value to fit your current plan. We do it to ensure you can access all the features and devices you love in Setapp. To determine the period you get, divide the gift card value by your plan value.

$9.99 or $27.97 worth

Recalculation applies per monthly cost if you have a $9.99 or $27.97 gift card.

Consider the following example: you have a "Mac + iOS" subscription that costs $12.49 per month. Your friend sends you a $27.97 gift card. To recalculate the subscription duration, we use the following formula: $27.97 ÷ $12.49 = 2.24 months, which equals 2 months and 8 days. In this case, Setapp will apply the gift card for 2 months and 8 days of your "Mac + iOS" subscription plan.

$107.88 worth

If you have a yearly gift card, the recalculation applies to a year's cost, regardless of your current subscription period or plan.

Consider the following example: you have a "Power Plan" subscription for $14.99 per month. Your friend sends a $107.88 Setapp gift card for your Birthday. To recalculate the subscription duration, let's find out the yearly cost of your subscription: $14.99 * 12 = $179.88 per year. Then we execute the division: $107.88 ÷ $179.88 = 0.6, which equals 7 months and 7 days. In this case, we will continue to offer you a monthly "Power Plan" subscription, and Setapp will apply the gift card for 7 months and 7 days.
