AI credit subscription

A credit subscription is an optional monthly add-on that provides extra AI credits beyond those included in your Setapp plan.

Why subscribe to extra credits?

Managing multiple AI subscriptions (like ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) is time-consuming and expensive. With a Setapp AI credit subscription, you get access to the most popular AI models through Setapp's AI apps — without signing up for anything extra. These apps don't just give you raw access to AI; they come with a polished interface and built-in features. Subscribe once and keep going, without the subscription overload.

Which apps can I use credits with?

You can use your credits with any Setapp app that has AI features. This includes all AI apps available through Setapp Membership, as well as AI standalone apps you've purchased or subscribed to separately.

How do additional AI credits work with my plan?

Subscription credits apply to the same apps and devices as your plan, but independently — they have their own billing cycle and are tracked separately.

• AI credits on subscription apply to the same apps and devices as your plan.
• Plan credits and subscription credits renew on their own billing dates.
• Credits are spent in order: plan credits first, then subscription credits.
• Unused subscription credits reset at the end of the credit subscription's billing period.

Example

Meet John. He's on the Setapp Membership Mac plan.

November 1 — John's billing date. He receives 1,000 plan credits.

November 6 — After using AI apps, John has 300 plan credits left. He subscribes to the Starter subscription (15,000 credits). His total balance: 15,300 credits.

December 1 — John's plan billing date. He used 10,000 credits total since November 6:

• 300 credits from his plan (used up first)
• 9,700 credits from his additional subscription

His balance: 5,300 subscription credits + 1,000 renewed plan credits = 6,300 credits.

December 5 — John uses 1,500 more credits:

• 1,000 from his plan (used up first)

• 500 from his credit subscription

  His balance: 6,300 - 1,000 - 500 = 4,800 credits.

December 6 — John's credit subscription billing date. Remaining subscription credits (4,800) reset, and he receives a fresh 15,000 bundle credits. His total balance: 15,000 credits.

How do I subscribe to extra credits?

You can do it in your Setapp account on the AI credits page. Here's how:

1. To get there quickly, click the credits indicator in the Setapp desktop app.

2. Click Add credits.

3. Choose the AI credit bundle that works best for you and then click Get credits:

• Starter — 15,000 credits, $17.99 USD/month. For occasional use.
• Boost — 30,000 credits, $35.99 USD /month. For everyday use.
• Power — 50,000 credits, $59.99 USD/month. For professional use.

4. Complete the purchase.

That's it — your credits are ready to use!

How to cancel a credit subscription?

You can cancel your credit subscription at any time. 

Note: Canceling your Setapp Membership or individual app subscriptions does not cancel your credit subscription. To stop being charged for it, cancel it separately.

To proceed, do the following:

1. Go to your Setapp account > Purchases > [Your credit subscription].

2. Click Subscription settings > Cancel subscription. Confirm your choice.

That's it. Credits left over stay on your balance until the end of the billing period.
