Notes:

• You'll only need an AI+ plan if you don't have your own OpenAI key and plan to use AI+ apps a lot.
• Our AI credits cover ChatGPT usage (including GPT-4o and DALL·E). Such AI models as Сlaude, Mistral, and Stable Diffusion are not covered by Setapp AI credits. However, you can use your own OpenAI key to access these models via Setapp apps. 

AI+ plans overview

Why do we introduce the AI+ plans?

With advancements in AI, Setapp promptly granted Setapp subscribers free access to AI apps using their Setapp accounts. We tested different scenarios and tracked expenses since we paid for the AI usage to AI providers.

Now, with all the data, Setapp introduces special AI+ subscription plans called "AI Enthusiast" and "AI Expert". These plans are for advanced AI users. If you continue with your regular non-AI+ plan, you'll automatically get the "Free Cap" AI+ plan.

In summary, starting February 28, 2024, there'll be an extra fee for AI usage, while "Free Cap" subscribers will receive 10 AI credits monthly as a bonus with their regular Setapp plan.

About AI+ plans

We provide two AI+ plans: "AI Enthusiast" and "AI Expert." If you stick to a regular Setapp plan, you'll receive the "Free Cap" plan for free as an extra. Family subscribers receive 50 credits per family member. In Setapp for Teams, every team member gets 10 credits.

* These models aren't on Setapp yet, but we wanted to let you know about our plans — it might affect your decision when choosing an annual subscription plan.

 

If you prefer, you can still use your own API key to access OpenAI. Most Setapp apps already allow this, and we expect this possibility will be available for all Setapp AI apps soon.

Note: If you have your own OpenAI subscription, remember to add your personal OpenAI key to any AI Setapp app you use. Your personal OpenAI key won't impact the Setapp AI tracker, so remember, tracking your AI usage is also your responsibility.

If you are on a trial period, the conditions will vary depending on your chosen plan. Please review the table below for more details:

Unused credits from the free 7-day trial will not carry over or be added to the credits included in your chosen plan.

Note: To receive 15 credits for your trial, both new and existing subscribers on trial must switch their plan to AI+.

About credits

Credits represent the currency used to calculate AI usage. Under the hood, we consider 1 credit as an average message of 1000 tokens.

A token is a small piece of information that AI systems use to understand human language. It can be a word, part of a word, or a group of words. About 1000 tokens equals 750 words.

To give you an idea of the credit value, here is a very approximate conversion to AI messages and minutes:

• 1 credit ≈ 40 messages (your requests + AI answers) in TypingMind with the GPT3.5-Turbo model.
• 1 credit ≈ 2 messages in TypingMind with the GPT4-Turbo model.
• 1 credit ≈ 4 messages in TypingMind with the GPT-4o model.
• 1 credit ≈ 5 minutes in MurmurType with the Whisper model.

Please note that the actual value of 1 credit will depend on the number of tokens in the messages, the AI model, and other parameters.

Unused credits are reset and will not be added to the credits in your next billing period.

You can check out the credits available to you in your Setapp account > Subscription. Alternatively, open Setapp desktop, go to the "Solve with AI+” category, and review the credit tracker.

How to shift to the AI+ plan?

To switch to the AI+ plan from your regular plan, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Subscription page in your Setapp account.
2. Click "Manage subscription."
3. Choose “AI Enthusiast” or “AI Expert" and click Continue.
4. Confirm your decision.

The plan will be applied immediately. If you switch from a cheaper plan, you’ll need to pay the difference between your new plan and leftovers from the previous plan. For information on how we recalculate fees, refer to our article on Changing subscription plan. 

Note: Mind the number of devices in the AI+ plans — it might differ from the number in your current plan. The table below will help you identify the plan that best suits your needs. However, the final decision is yours to make.

FAQ

Should I subscribe to an AI+ plan in addition to my existing plan?

No, these plans are interchangeable. You have the option to choose either a regular plan or an AI+ plan. If you opt for a regular plan, you will still receive 10 credits or 50 credits per family member for the “Family" subscription.

Can I use my own API key for OpenAI in Setapp apps?

Absolutely! There are no restrictions on the Setapp side, allowing you to use your own API key. Most developers have already implemented this possibility, so just add your key to the AI apps you use.

However, remember that Setapp cannot track AI usage when you use a personal API key. Therefore, tracking AI usage is your responsibility.

Are my messages sent to AI private?

Absolutely! In Setapp, we can only see the number of tokens used and the AI model utilized. We cannot view the messages themselves, nor do we store them. Moreover, OpenAI has assured us that they will not use your messages to train their AI models.

Will I get my own Setapp key if I subscribe to the AI+ plan?

No. We share our OpenAI key with our subscribers, so all Setapp subscribers use the same OpenAI key. This means you can use it only within Setapp apps and not outside Setapp.

How can I change my plan to AI+?

To change your plan, go to your Setapp account, then navigate to Subscriptions > "Manage subscriptions." Please note that you will need to pay the difference between your previous and new plans. Please also note that used credits within “Free Cap” will apply to your next AI+ period.

Example:

Let's consider John Doe again to illustrate how this procedure works:

• On January 6, John Doe subscribed to the monthly Setapp "Mac" plan for $9.99.
• On February 28, John Doe receives 10 credits in his Setapp account. Suppose he uses 7 credits by March 1.
• On March 1, he upgrades his plan to the AI Enthusiast monthly. He pays the difference:
  $14.99-$9.99=$5 — the total difference in plans’ fees.
  $5 / 30 (days in a month) = $0.17 — the difference in plans’ fees per day.
  $0.17 * 6 (days left)= $1 — the difference fee that John Doe must pay for upgrading his plan.
• On March 1, John Doe gets 125 credits. 7 of them are already used. In his Setapp account, he sees:
  AI credits: 118/125

What happens to the credits left over from the previous billing period?

The credits will reset and cannot be carried forward to the next billing period.

Where can I check my current credit balance?

• Open the Setapp desktop and go to the "Solve with AI+" category. In this example, the credit tracker displays that the subscriber was initially given 100 credits, used up 80 credits, and currently has 20 credits remaining for the AI+ services.

• You can also view your credit balance directly in your Setapp account. Simply navigate to Subscription and check your AI credits.

Why do family members receive more credits per person than regular plan subscribers?

If family members switch to an AI+ plan, they will no longer be part of their Setapp family. Additionally, if the family owner switches to an AI+ plan, the Setapp family will stop existing. To reach a consensus, we allocate 5 times more credits to families than subscribers under the "Free Cap" plan. However, individual subscribers always have the option to switch to the AI+ plan and receive even more credits.

Note: We offer these advantageous conditions to families, expecting they will be sustainable for years. However, if we find that our business model becomes unprofitable, we may need to revise the conditions for families. 

What are the advantages of GPT-4 in comparison to GPT-3.5?

GPT-4 offers several improvements over its predecessor GPT-3.5, including:

1. A broader and more up-to-date knowledge base (relevant as of 2023).
2. Enhanced language understanding.
3. The ability to process images in requests.

How to use DALL·E?

DALL·E is a text-to-image AI tool. Use it to create infographics, images for your blog, logos, postcards for your friend’s birthday, and more.

Currently, only TypingMind and BoltAI support DALL·E among Setapp apps.

To use DALL·E in TypingMind via the Setapp key, click Menu > Plugins > DALL-E by Setapp > Enable DALL·E by Setapp. Click Settings if you want to choose image resolution and quality.

Note: TypingMind only supports DALL·E 3.

To use DALL·E in BoltAI via the Setapp key, click New Chat and choose DALL·E 2 or DALL·E 3 in the menu next to Setapp. DALL·E 3 offers improved image quality and enhanced understanding of prompts compared to DALL·E 2, while usage of DALL·E 2 is cheaper.
